Television Personality. He was an American television sportscaster, who was a pioneer in Chicago's television sportscasting community and longtime WBBM-TV weekend sportscaster. Born Isaac Bruce Rogatz, he attended South Shore High School in Chicago, receiving honors for football and track. He graduated from the University of Michigan where he played on the football team and track. While in college, he worked as sports director of WHRV in Ann Arbor. He began his television career in 1949 as an announcer. In the 1950s, he began being the sportscaster for Columbia Broadcasting System, which owns and operates WBBM. According to newspaper articles, he died at age 53 suddenly at work from a heart attack shortly before he was scheduled to air with the Sunday night sports. A two-minute tribute was offered by Howard Cosell, sportscaster, during ABC's "Monday Night Football" game between Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams. Among his many honors and awards were the Illinois Associated Press Editors Award, the John Hervey Award from Ohio State University and in 1976 he received a Chicago Emmy for his WBBM-TV special, "Bruce Roberts Takes a Closer Look at Sports."
