Annie D. Blanding was born in Selma, N.C., on Aug. 5, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Lucille Johnson Barfield and Willie Humphrey Barfield.

She attended school at Reeseville School and joined its AME Church at an early age.

She married the late Isaac Lavoe. She mothered one daughter, Christine
Devoe Moss, of this marriage. She later married the late Flander Blanding Junior. She then mothered one son, the late Bernie Blanding, and one daughter, the late Lucille B. Carter

She moved to New York, where she worked in the garment district until she retired. She attended Bridge Street Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. She also lived in the Bridge Street Apartments prior to residing in the Dekalb Nursing Home.

She requested to return home for her twilight years. As she has ascended behind the veil, she leaves to celebrate her life, a loving daughter, Christine Devoe Moss of Sumter; one daughter-in-law; three sisters-in-law; one son-in-law; 18 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She enjoyed life to its fullest and always had something memorable to mention about her family.

A celebration, not mourning, is what she really wanted for each of us.

To be together, leaving the past behind and making the family our newest friend. In her own words, she said, "May God be with you until we meet again."

Services: Chapel of Sumter Funeral Service Inc. with the Rev. M.G. Walters officiating.

Burial: Reeseville Cemetery.
