FAMILY OF CHARLES AND MARGARET:
Charles and Margaret were married c. 1770 and began a family, in Orange County.
He is claimed to have been across the Alleghenies before the Revolution, with a surveying party headed by George Washington. His first entered military service in September 1779, serving periodically from Orange County, Virginia. In February 1781, he was 123rd of the 137 militia members to sign the Orange County Petition, which was rejected by House of Delegates in March of same. The war ended in October upon the surrender of Cornwallis; with King George III continuing as the ruler of England and her colonial possessions until 1820.
After conclusion of the Revolutionary War, previous soldiers of both sides began to migrate westward, including Charles and Margaret. They left Orange county in the spring of 1782 in company of Charles' nephew Thomas** , and her brothers John and Christian Peters. At time of their settlement at New River and Wolf Creek, the area was Montgomery county. In January of 1806, this became Giles county, formed from Montgomery, Tazewell, and Monroe.
In May, the First Grand Jury included Charles Walker.
In June, the Second Grand Jury included Charles Walker.
In June 1807, Charles headed a dozen signatures on petition to assist John Peters in gaining rights to operate a ferry on New River.
In March 1815, Personal Property Tax Assessments listed Charles and Margaret Walker.

A plaque on the courthouse grounds in Pearisburg, lists John Peters and Charles Walker as soldiers of the Rev. War.
{ No records are known for Charles having made an application for pension.
Please note that he should not be confused with another Charles of Bedford, who was born in King George county and died in Campbell county, Va.}
