Helen Harris Johnston, 88, of Waynesburg, died at 2 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.
She was born Tuesday, June 17, 1924, in Holbrook, a daughter of the late Everett Ray Harris and Eva Roberts Harris.
Mrs. Johnston was a member of First Christian Church of Waynesburg.
When her health permitted, she enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing.
She had worked as a clerk at Alberts Grocery Store in Waynesburg and at Thompson Hardware Store in Washington. While in Somerset County, she worked in home health care. She also was a homemaker.
On April 21, 1943, she married her husband, Charles W. Johnston, who died July 25, 2008.
Surviving are four sons and their wives, Charles Richard (Leah) Johnston of Barstow, Calif., James H. (Linda) Johnston of Marianna, George A. (Jackie) Johnston of Central City and Gerald E. (Pat) Johnston of Sycamore; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Kiger of Lexington Park, Md., and Naomi Huffman of Woodland Park, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, April 20, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, with Assistant Clergy William Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
