He was raised by his paternal grandparents, John Thomas Walling and Margaret Ann Savage. John Tols married Bessie Lee Allison on August 9, 1916 in Bromide, Johnston Co., OK. They had 6 children: Eunice Almeda, John Emmett, Annie Odell, Ben Mason, Wayne Lee, and Kendall Clark. John Tols Walling died November 23, 1955 from bone cancer.
