John "Anderson" Gibson was the firstborn child of George Gideon Gibson and Nancy B. Anderson. He enlisted with his brother, Gideon Walker Gibson, at Maple Furnace, Butler County, Pennsylvania on September 24, 1861 on the side of the Union. He was in Company B, 103 Pennsylvania Infantry. His rank was that of Private. Anderson was injured and died during the war but I have not been able to find out the specific details. Gideon's diary mentions that Anderson was shot in the leg and taken to the infirmary and he never returned after that. A later entry in the diary has him noting that he had received word from home of Anderson's death.
