Janet Suzanne Barker Hindle died March 26, 2013, a resident of Nashville, Tenn., where she has resided for the past 28 years.

She was known for her excellent memory, brilliant mind and great wit. She was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., on July 28,1942, and traveled extensively with her family during her youth. She obtained a B.S. in nursing at the Medical College of Virginia, and later a Masters Degree and a Ph.D. in Nursing from New York University. She came to Nashville, Tenn. in 1985, where she taught at the school of nursing at Vanderbilt University until she retired.

She is survived by her daughter, Allison McDonnell, and three grandchildren, Ainsley, Emma and Ian McDonnell, all of McLean, Va. She is also survived by her sister, Delby B. Pool; a nephew, Jordan R. Stobbs; and a niece, Courtney Mitchell of Good Hope, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Colonel and Mrs. CE Barker, whose remains are interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

There will be no services, but contributions in her memory are suggested to be made to the School of Nursing, Vanderbuilt University, Nashville, Tenn., or to The National Kidney Foundation.
