Obituary from the Clarksburg Exponent Telegram Wednesday April 24, 2013: James Ross Alfred, 79, of Bridgeport, passed away on April 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 29, 1933, in Weston, a son of the late Teddy C. Alfred and Vivian King Alfred. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirlee Dawn Taylor Alfred. They were married for 57 years. He is also survived by his sons, Stephen J. Alfred and his wife Judy, Theodore (Ches) Alfred and James K. Alfred, all of Bridgeport; two daughters, Charlotte (Jodi) Piscura and her husband Jeff of Bridgeport and Terrah (Terri) Tillman and her husband Walter of Morgantown; his grandchildren, Stephanie Alfred, Daniel Piscura and his wife, Miranda, Dillon and Aubree Piscura and Emmalee and Abbie Alfred and Mary Beth Alfred; one sister, Charlotte Orrahood and her husband Charles; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, Daniel Eric Alfred. Jim attended Weston High School and following that enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War. Jim was very active in business in the area after his service. He returned to West Virginia as terminal manager for Helms Express. He then went into the travel trailer business and formed Alfred Mobile Acres. He also founded Alfred Construction, Inc. whose business is primarily in the oil and gas service industry, which he operated until the time of his illness. He also was instrumental in the building of the American Legion Post 68 home and getting the charter for the Sons of the American Legion. He took pride in all of the work and organizations in which he was involved. He was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served on the Bridgeport City Council for several terms, as well as the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid golfer and he belonged to several golf clubs in the area, as well as in Florida. He was a 50-year member of the Late Lodge 63, 32nd-degree Scottish Rite, Nemesis Shrine and North Central WV Shrine Club. At Mr. Alfred’s request, donations may be made to the United Hospital Cancer Fund, 327 Medical Center Drive, Bridgeport WV 26330. Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Ken Ramsey Presiding. Interment will be in Bridgeport Cemetery with military honors being accorded.
