Canadian press baron, financier, sportsman. After striking it rich at Leduc strike in the Alberta oil patch, Bell bought several western Canadian newspapers, forming FP Publications. At one time he was the largest shareholder in Canadian Pacific. He had earlier been a major shareholder in the Hudson's Bay Company and tried to take it over. He was also a top horse breeder and racehorse owner.
