Carol Marie Heine, 73, died on Saturday (Aug. 25, 2012) at Newton Medical Hospital in Newton.?Carol was born on Aug. 9, 1939, to Garret and Freddie Cross in Cottonwood Falls.?She was retired from the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Railroad Union, where she worked as an administrative assistant. She was a member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church.?She is survived by her son, Brad Heine of Wichita; a daughter, Sheryl and husband, John Slifer of Newton; four brothers, Jim Cross of Matador, Texas, Marion and wife, Jackie Cross of Dillon, Mont., Paul Cross of Salina, and Doran and wife, Lorraine Cross of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.?She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Eric Heine; three brothers, Neil Cross, Jerry Cross and Dan Cross; and a sister, Mary Watchous.?Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 28, 2012), with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 29, 2012) at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Don Swender presiding.
