U.S. Congressman. Moving to Somerset, Ohio, in his youth, he became successful in agricultural pursuits. Entering politics, he served as the Perry County Ohio Treasurer, (1835, 1837, and 1839). In 1847, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress, served until 1849 and elected to the Thirty-third Congress, serving (1853 to 1855). Not seeking reelection, he resumed his agricultural pursuits until his death.
