June grew up near Boston, Mass, and spent much time in Maine with her parents, Robert and Eleanor Ide, who loved the outdoors and living by the water.
Among her ancestors were Gen. William B. Ide, first president of the Republic of California, and Capt. Alexander Bunker, respected whaling captain, discoverer of Bunker's Island, Hawaii, and first lighthouse keeper on Nantucket. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and descendant of the Mayflower pilgrims. Her grandparents were Jeremiah B. Erb and Charlotte Bell Erb.
Affectionately known as Collee to her friends, she was a high school band majorette and excelled academically. She graduated from U of Mich., Ann Arbor, where she was also active in many academic, social and athletic clubs. She contributed much of her
time and energy to the war effort. Her masters in history was earned at U of Cal, Berkeley;
further education was at John's Hopkins and Oxford.
Throughout her life, June was a New York fashion model, clothing designer, ballroom dance instructor, high school educator, pastel and oil painter, real estate broker, figure skating judge, award winning gardner, and avid traveler. Most of all she loved her four children and was happiest when they were close by, creating fond memories and treasured experiences.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 14,10am at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody, Mass. In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to the Nature Conservancy, or nature/wildlife group of your choice.
