He was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Sullivan, the son of George Benjamin and Amy Scott Hopkins. He married Betty Lee Taylor in 1947; she died in 1988. He married Lois M. Deadmond Karch in 1988.
Mr. Hopkins served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an operator in the millhouse at A.E. Staley Co. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Springfield and volunteered for Fairhavens Christian Home.
Survivors: wife, Lois; son, Gene (wife, Linda) Hopkins of Decatur; stepdaughter, Deborah (husband, Jay) Dunning of Springfield; stepson, Cleve (wife, Karen) Karch of Charleston; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Alice Fisher of Tower Hill.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Dawson and Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial: Harristown Cemetery
