John Michael Rankin is second child and only son of Whitney McKinley Rankin and Mildred Irene Evans. He served in the US Navy in WWII with his father. It is unknown at this time if they were stationed together.

Both are buried with their wives at Willamette National Cemetery, but in different sections.

A funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 1996, in Hillside Chapel for John M. Rankin , a longshoreman for the Port of Portland who died July 6 of a heart attack at age 72.
Mr. Rankin was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Portland and lived in Oregon City for 26 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired in 1989. In 1944, he married Betty J. Sundeleaf, who died last year.
Survivors include his son, Tim S. of Heppner; daughter, Judy L. of Oregon City; and three grandchildren.
Private burial will be in Willamette National Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association.
