Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Army at Elk Grove, Illinois and served as a Private in Company G, 113th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. His Medal of Honor action occurred May 22, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The citation (issued September 6, 1894) reads "Gallantry in the charge of the volunteer storming party."
