Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. A native of Mayfield, Wisconsin, Hill was awarded his MOH for service at Date Creek, Arizona as a Sergeant with Company E, 5th United States Cavalry on September 8, 1872. His citation reads: "Secured the person of a hostile Apache Chief, although while holding the chief he was severely wounded in the back by another Indian."
