Fred was born April 19, 1931 at 104 Springer, Edwardsville. He graduated Edwardsville High School in 1949 and afterwards served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Europe from 1952-1953. Following an Honorable Discharge from the Army, Fred attended Brown Business School and began his life-long career as a Farm Manager for the Gillham Family Farms.
Fred married Lida Lou (Smith) German at her home in Freeburg on April 15, 1966.
Fred was a life-long member of the Republican Party. He was also a 33rd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner of the Ainad Temple. He was also a life-long Moose, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, a member of the Immanuel Methodist Church and supporter of the Edwardsville High School Football Team.
Fred was a loving and devoted son, husband and father. He was the primary caregiver for his parents until their deaths. Fred's greatest joys were his daughter and his wife. He was deeply interested in mechanics, wood working and farming. As a member of one of Edwardsville's founding families, Fred enjoyed learning about local history. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard.
