Burris Ray Headley, 87, of Mt. Morris, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born Monday, January 11, 1926, in Spraggs, a son of the late Ray F. Headley and Helen Whitlatch Headley.

Mr. Headley was a member of Mt. Morris United Methodist Church.

He also was a member of Mt. Morris Lions Club, Mt. Morris Senior Center and James T. Maxon American Legion Post 992 of Mt.Morris, where he was past commander.

Mr. Headley was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the Phillipines.

He worked as a mechanic for 42 years for Shannopin Coal Mine in Bobtown.

His wife, Helen Elena Hawkins Headley, whom he married May 7, 1958, died November 21, 2002.

Surviving are a daughter, Elena (Ralph) Dennis of Morgantown; three sons, Warren (Frances) Headley of Mt. Morris, David (Linda) Headley of Smithfield and Frank (Mira) Headley of Morgantown; seven grandchildren, Darrell (Betsy) Headley of Mt. Morris, Tammy (Rob) Everly of Morgantown, Lisa (Marvin) Carter of Williamsburg, Va., Brandon Headley and Lynann Headley, both of Morgantown, and Grant Headley and Adam Headley, both of Smithfield; nine great-grandchildren, Jordon Headley, Jennifer Headley, Jeffrey Headley and Jacob Headley, all of Mt. Morris, Joshua Carter, Breonna Carter and Kayla Carter, all of Williamsburg, and Justin Everly and Michael Everly, both of Morgantown; two sisters, Ruth A. Waychoff and Doris Forquer, both of Core, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind his caregiver, Lisa Lewis.

Deceased are three brothers, Alvin Headley, Carl F. Headley and Roy E. Headley.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, PA 15349, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, with the Rev. Fred Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview-Kiger Cemetery, Whiteley Township.
