Roman Catholic Cardinal. Best known as a leading expert in the writings of Cardinal John Henry Newman, considered one of the greatest British prose writers and one of the most influential apologists of the faith. He completed his studies with a doctorate in theology at Institut Catholique de Paris and appointed a priest on June 29, 1943 for the Archdiocese of Rennes. He taught at the Collège-Académie de Rennes and at the Saint-Malo seminar. He then worked for six years at the Centre National de l'Education Religieuse (CNER) before becoming rector of the l'Université Catholique d'Angers. Appointed bishop of Evreux on October 24, 1972, Honoré was consecrated on 17 December of the same year by Cardinal Paul Gouyon. On 13 August 1981 he was appointed Archbishop of Tours, a position he held until July 22, 1997, when he retired after reaching the canonical age. Honoré was appointed as cardinal by Pope John Paul II in the consistory of 27 February 2001 with the title of Cardinal Priest of Santa Maria della Salute Primavalle. He died of natural causes.
