Nellie was the daughter of John and Emma O'Connor. She married Connie Roosevelt Underwood in 1947 and they were the parents of one daughter: Juanita Christine 'Dolly'. She was also the mother of two other daughters, Edna and Mona.

A crypt side service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 1999, in Westminster Gardens.
She was born in Guilford County, and retired from Flowers Bakery. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Survivors are her daughters, Edna Freeman of Greensboro, Mona Wright of the home, Dolly Knight of Greensboro; and eight grandchildren.
