Barbara Golding Kimbrough
May 7, 1923 - May 22, 2013

Barbara Golding Kimbrough passed away early Wednesday morning, May 22, 2013 at her home in Haskell, Texas. Mrs. Kimbrough recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Haskell with Rev. Dustin Wilhite, Pastor John Kyle Kimbrough, and John Dudley Kimbrough officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

One of three children, Barbara Golding was born May 7, 1923 in Houston, Texas to Frederick Mark and Marie (Bridewell) Golding. Barbara attended Rice University and the urban liberal arts institution, Marymount Manhattan College, in New York City. She married the dashing John Alec Kimbrough on October 27, 1941 at The Cathedral of St. John Divine in New York City. The couple moved to Haskell in 1946, a place they both adored and proud to call their home.

Known as a stupendous gourmet cook and brilliant bridge player, Barbara was also known to be quite a keen hunter and fisherman. This was something her and John spent many years enjoying together. After 64 years of marriage, John passed away May 8, 2006. Barbara devoted many hours as leader of the Boy Scouts and Bluebirds along with swimming lessons to many. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church and taught Bible school for several years.

Barbara's presence at the Haskell Bridge Club table and her beloved Methodist Church will be noticed by many and missed by all. She was loyal to both.

Many know Barbara was diagnosed with diabetes at the young age of 9. She was given until age 18 to survive the disease. In 2010, Barbara proudly received the 75 year medal given by the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA for courageously living with the disease in dignity and determination for nearly her entire life. She was a classic example of living life to the fullest.

In addition to John, Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Marie Golding; and her sister, Rosemarie Hamill.

She will be missed by her son, John Dudley Kimbrough and his wife Jamie of Castle Rock, Colorado; daughter, Bobby Wiseman of Haskell; brother, Fred Golding of Scottsdale, Arizona; granddaughter, Brooke Kimbrough; grandson, John Kyle Kimbrough; great-grandchildren, John Augustus Kimbrough and Elaina Ann Kimbrough; several nieces, nephews, and adopted sons and daughters that are too numerous to count.

If desired, memorials can be made in Barbara's name to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215 or to Christ Church Cathedral, Golding Chapel, 1117 Texas Avenue, Houston, TX 77002.
