Paul T. Federer, 8, of Midland, died Sunday evening, April 22, 2001, at the MidMichigan Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Rantoul, Ill. son of the late Charles and Mary (Pachihofe) Federer. He attended school at St. Brigid Catholic School in Midland. Paul married the former Shirley Woodcock on June 3, 1950, at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Midland. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. He worked at The Dow Chemical Co. before entering World War I where he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre and Battle of the Bulge. He and his brother Francis owned and operated Federer Brother's Grocery Store at the corner of Poseyville and Ashby Roads for many years. After the grocery busines, he retired from Bullock Creek Elementary School. Paul was a life member of the Midland V.F.W. Post 3651. He loved to read and enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed a good political conversation.

Pau is survived by his wife Shirley; two daughters, Mary and Dennis Haney of Midland and Paula and Ray Nies of Sanford; one sister, Ruth Nankervis of Midland; and three grandchildren, Jason, Stephanie, and Andrew Nies. He was predeceased by brothers William, Francis, Adolph, Lawrence, Leo and Ed; and by sisters, Julie Bye, Clara Richardson, Agnes Phillips and Anna Gotham.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursfday April 26, 2001, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. with Deacon Frank Hudson of St. Brigid Catholic Church officiatig. Burial will be in Homer Township Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Midland V.F.W. Post 3651.

Paul's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m until time of service.
