Artits In 1930 he enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti, Venice. In 1933 he had paintings shown in Milan and in 1936 he was awarded a scholarship in Rome. He abandoned painting during the Second World War and became a member of the Italian Resistance and was imprisoned by the Fascists. At the end of the war he returned to painting. In 1948 he exhibited at the Venice Biennale and then he began to exhibit his work internationally.
