Singer. He was best known as the lead vocalist with the R&B music ensemble The Dells. The group was formed as the El Rays while Junior was attending Thornton Township High School and after sharpening their harmonizing skills while performing on local street corners, they landed a contract with Chess Records. They experienced a minor hit with "Darling I Know" however, it would be under the guidance of The Moonglows' member Harvey Fuqua that The Dells enjoyed their greatest commercial success. "Stay In My Corner" (1968) was their first hit to earn a Top Ten placing on the Pop Charts. This was followed with "Oh, What A Night" (1969) and their gold status single "Give Your Baby A Standing Ovation" (1973). The Dells remained active as performers and signed with the Philadelphia International label during the 1990s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 after more than 40 years in the industry. Junior died from multiple organ failure. (bio by: C.S.)
