Elizabeth (Carvel) Palmer

Elizabeth Carvel was born in Laurel, on July 22, 1934, to Elbert N and Ann (Valliant) Carvel. Betty attended Laurel High School, Penn Hall Junior College and graduated from the University of Delaware. She was a social worker and many years later, a realtor.

Betty and her husband Charles Palmer met in elementary school and married in 1958. They loving raised their five children in Baltimore where they played an active part in the local art and music scene. Moving back to southern Delaware in the mid 1980's, Charles became the Director of the Rehoboth Art League. As a team, he and Betty brought new vigor and broadened the range of artistic offerings to area residents and summer visitors.

Betty was from a musical family and studied the piano throughout her life. She generously shared her talent with her family, friends and various community groups. She was fortunate to study with exceptional instructors and friends including: Ruth Bailey, Anthony Loudis, Mary Hearne, Marie Schmitt, Lee Mitchell and Selma Epstein. Betty was a Master Gardener and also enjoyed crossword puzzles, movies and spending time with her family. Summers spent at her parents' Kent Island farm were also a yearly source of pleasure.
