Roman Catholic Pope. He served as Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church from 1181 to 85. Born Ubaldo Allucingoli in Lucca, he was elected Pope on September 1, 1181 and crowned on September 6th. He lived in Rome initially, but from 1182 he had to live the remainder of his pontificate in exile. He was making plans for the third Crusade just before his death in Verona.
