Johann Frantz Hieronymus was born in Lorsbach, Germany, September 24, 1729 and died in Clark County, Kentucky in 1815.(1,2)

Most sources show that Johann Frantz Hieronymus was born in Vienna, Austria. The book, 'The Hieronymus Story 1997', shows that his baptism record of September 27, 1729 and his 1743 confirmation record have been found and documented in the Lutheran church in Lorsbach, Germany.(2) Also his Great Grandson, Joseph Hooker Hieronymus, in a small book published in 1947, states that "he came from Germany, from off the Rhine River".(1)

He came from Germany with his brother Johann Balthasar Hieronymus to America in October of 1747 aboard the ship 'Two Brothers'.(2) The ship landed in Philadelphia. From there they moved and bought land in Louden County, Virginia at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains where Frantz built a large stone house about the year 1755.(1,2)

Frantz Hieronymus married Elizabeth Rector (Richter) in 1760, the daughter of John Rector and Anna Catherine (Fishback) Rector.

Their children:
John Hieronymus; b. July 31 1762 Loudon Co. Va., d. 8-16-1826, Howard County, Missouri.

Samuel Rector Hieronymus; b. Sept 16 1786 Loudon Co. Va., d. Sept 22 1866 Lee Co. Ky.

Elizabeth Hieronymus Reynolds; b. 1796.

Johann Frantz Hieronymus came to Clark County, Kentucky around 1795 with his sons, John, Benjamin and Pendleton. John bought 100 acres of land on Jouett Creek from John Holder an early settler and land owner, John later deeded the land to his father.(2,3)

Johann Frantz Hieronymus and his son Benjamin Hieronymus are buried in the Hieronymus Cemetery which is now a part of the Lower Howard's Creek Nature and Heritage Preserve in Clark County, Kentucky.

Johann Frantz Hieronymus is my G.G.G.G. Grandfather.
