Thomas Ray Powell, born November 23, 1926, age 82, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at a Baldwin County Nursing Home. Mr. Powell was a native of Suggsville, AL and a resident of Grove Hill, AL. He served in the United States Navy in WWII and he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, AL.
He was a Conductor for Southern Railways.
He is predeceased in death by his wife, Helen Powell; brother, Henri Powell; and son, Tommy Powell. He is survived by two sons, Billy (Katie) Powell of Selma, AL and John Powell of Selma, AL; a daughter, Elizabeth Weaver of Selma, AL; four brothers, Bobby Neal Powell of Walker Springs, AL, DeVane (Mary) Powell of Birmingham, AL, Royce (Martha Jo) Powell of Thomasville, AL, and Francis (San San) Powell of Grove Hill, AL; two sisters, Shelby (Larry) Sullivan of Wagarville, AL and Jane (Ray) Sheffield of Grove Hill, AL; and three grandchildren.
Visitation and Service will be Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 PM Service in the Chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill, AL with the Rev. Percy Clarke officiating. Interment will be in Whatley Cemetery, in Whatley, AL.
Lathan Funeral Home, in Jackson, AL are handling the arrangements.
