DUMAS, LAWRENCE III, died December 26, 2009. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 29, 1945, the son of Lawrence Dumas, Jr. and Donald Berry Dumas. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Betsy Acton Dumas; sons, William Lawrence Dumas IV and George Acton Dumas and his wife Susan; and daughter, Margaret Dumas Bond and her husband, Christopher; two grandchildren, George Acton Dumas, Jr. and Claude Augustus Dumas; sister, Aleta Dumas Schanbacher and her husband, Bob; brothers, William Berry Dumas and John Hicks Dumas II and his wife, Anne; and many nieces and nephews. Larry attended Shades Valley High School where he was president of the student body. He graduated from Yale University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He received his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law where he served as Student Work Editor of the Law Review. He practiced law for many years in Birmingham and was a partner with Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas, and O'Neal and later with Walston, Wells, and Burchall. Growing up, Larry was a member of Highlands Methodist Church and later joined Canterbury United Methodist Church where he was an active member until his death. Throughout his adulthood, he was involved in numerous local and national Christian charities. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham, the Beaux Arts Krewe, and Mountain Brook Club. Larry enjoyed all sports, especially hunting and golf. He was a talented man with numerous interests, but his greatest joy on earth was his family. e HeThere will be a memorial service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Canterbury United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be private at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any memorials be made to the Salvation Army, the Big Oak Ranch, or Canterbury United Methodist Church.
