Dorothy A. Nunan passed
away on February 17, 2005, in
Clovis, N.M. She was born in
Des Moines, Iowa, on July 26,
1908, to Thomas and Elizabeth
Dewitt. At the age of 12, she
and her parents
moved
to Modesto,
California.
She later
m a r r i e d
Harry J.
Nunan on
September
9, 1940, and
they shared
52 years of
mar r i a g e
before he passed away in 1992.
Mrs. Nunan came to Hobbs
with her husband in 1942,
when Mr. Nunan was stationed
at the air base. She was
president of the Pink Ladies
in the early ‘50s, and worked
at the Lea County Child
Development Center from the
‘50s until she retired in 1996.
The Jenkins & Nunan Child
Development Center is named
after her. After her retirement
she did volunteer work for the
American Red Cross and for
her church, The Holy Trinity
Episcopal Missionary
Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Nunan were
blessed with two daughters,
Denise Defoor and husband,
Dennis of Clovis, and Barbara
Ann Nunan who passed away
in August of 1990. One grandson,
Doug Defoor and wife
Brittany and two great-grandchildren,
Mason and Abigail,
all from Clovis, N.M.
She had a passionate love for
helping people, especially
children and her beloved
friends. In lieu of flowers
donations may be made to
your favorite charity at the
family's request.
Services will be held on
Monday, February 21, 2005, at
10 a.m. at the Prairie Haven
Memorial Park Chapel with
Father Tom Kennann and
Father Arthur Saxton-
Williams officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday,
February 20, 2005, from 1 p.m.
until 6 p.m. at the funeral
home. Arrangements are in
the care of Griffin Funeral
Home.
