The death record of her daughter Elizabeth has Mary's maiden name as Menear, as does the death record of daughter Eliza. Eliza was born in 1848 & died 1911 in Pennsylvania,

Mary was still a young woman when Payton died at age 30. Her second husband was Jacob Ervin,
also widowed and previously married.
He wed Mary Menear in 1858.
