She was active in 1930's radio and the Parnu theatre before being forced into exile from her native country during World War II. She studied at Stockholm University and later received her MFA from the Yale School of Drama in the United States. Afterwards, she became head of the Drama department at the Hartford Conservatory from 1963 to 1971 and was chairperson of the Estonian PEN Club in 1982. Her major literary works were "Lumm", a collection of short stories; her principal writing was a 5-volume "From Ashes to Earth" in 1961 to 1968; and "Baiting the Wolves" in 1975. She married Dr. Erik Linnolt with whom she had no surviving children.
