Gerald 'Bud' Scharlau, 71, of Colfax, died Monday, March 27, 2000, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Bud was born April 8, 1928, in Menomonie to Arthur and Laura (Holbein) Scharlau. He was raised on the family farm and often helped his mother with the younger children. In 1950, he married Gaynel Larson and together they raised five children.
He was employed at Allen Bradley in Milwaukee for many years before moving his family back to Colfax where he farmed and worked at Sanna Dairies until his retirement in 1990.
He was a proud grandfather, Democrat and Brewers fan. Bud loved to do crossword puzzles, play cards, garden, and even can. He was a member of American Legion Post #131 in Colfax.
Survivors include his five children, Michael (Rose), Gail (Bryan) Kann, Jill (Dennis) Smith, and Diane (Tom) Govin, all of Menomonie, and Anita (Daniel) Monitor of Eau Claire; 11 grandchildren; and five sisters, Joanne Scharlau, Deloris Huber, Carol Stuckert, Ethel Hendrickson and Ellie Brockman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Dick, and one sister, Irma.
Funeral services were Friday, March 31, 2000, from the Colfax Lutheran Church with Pastor Les Walck officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Sampson Funeral Chapel in Colfax was in charge of arrangements.
