William (Bill) Benjamin Zarzaur, Jr., 79, of Birmingham, AL, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, June 19, 2011. He was a member of St. George Melkite Greek-Catholic Church. He was a Registered Pharmacist in the state of Alabama for the past 57 years. Bill was the owner of Modern Drugs and Homewood Discount Pharmacy for 47 years. He served 2 years in the Army in a Medical Battalion unit as a male nurse, serving the 2nd year in Germany. He graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1949 lettering in 3 sports, Holmes Jr College lettering in 4 sports and then Howard College from the School of Pharmacy. He was an avid fisherman and most passionate about his love of photography, music and iconography among other interests. He is preceded by his parents, William B Zarzaur Sr. and Emelene Meshad Zarzaur, wife Doris Yeager Zarzaur, second wife Ruby Lowery Zarzaur and 3 grandsons William Zeboriah Zarzaur, Joshua Damian Ritchey and Ryan (Bubba) Mayfield. He is survived by his children, Annette (Fr Deacon Seraphim) Ritchey, David (Dianne) Zarzaur, Denise (Steve) Mitchell, Cecilia (Mark) Faircloth, William B. Zarzaur III, step-daughter Jo Ellen (Bob) Donaldson, brother Robert Zarzaur Sr. and sister Theresa Reardon, grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason, Jeremy, Jacob, Jessica, Justin, Steven, Michelle, Austin, Kim, 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way, numerous nieces and nephews; dearest friends, Carol Darden-Bass, Glenn (Blackie) Durham and Sam Hendking. Visitation will be at St. George Melkite Greek-Catholic Church 425 16th Ave South on Wednesday, June 22 beginning at 4:00 pm. The Trisagion Prayers will be at 7:00 pm. The funeral will be Thursday, June 23 at 11:00 am, with a Mercy Meal in the Church Hall after the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. George Melkite Greek-Catholic Church.
