John Bowker Bromell, 82, entered eternal life on November 7, 2012. He was the beloved father of Susan (Dan) Potter of Charles Town, WV, Thomas (Cindy) Bromell of Mount Pleasant, MI, Anne (Jeff) Stambler of Walkersville, MD, and John Ambrose (Roya) Bromell of St. Louis, MO.
He was the beloved husband of Arnett Kizzia Bromell and the late Nancy Cook Bromell. He is survived by his eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many devoted relatives and friends.
John Bowker Bromell was born in Washington, DC. He went to Wilson High School and then attended Washington & Lee University. John graduated in 1952 with a Bachelors Degree in English from Northwestern University, in Evanston, IL. While he was at Northwestern University, John became a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In 1955, he graduated from George Washington Law School, and in 1960, John received his LL.M. from Georgetown University.
From 1962 until his retirement in 1990, John Bromell worked at the Internal Revenue Service in the Office of the Chief Counsel. He was also president of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church Parish Council. John lived in Bethesda, MD for over 25 years.
John moved to the Tampa Bay area, and was recognized by the United States Congress with the Outstanding Mentor Award for his 13 years of work with GED candidates in Florida. He served on the Executive Board of Heritage Springs Community, in Trinity, Florida, writing their Constitution and Covenants.
John enjoyed politics, basketball, international travel, genealogy, photography, and tennis.
A memorial service will by held on November 29, 2012 at Universalist National Memorial Church in Washington, DC at 10 a.m. and interment will be at Rock Creek Cemetery at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John Bowker Bromell's name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, at 1100 New York Ave.,NW, Suite 660, Washington, DC 20005.
