Lynn Charles Orfgen, 66 years old, of Rochester Hills, Michigan passed away June 13, 2013. Lynn was "born at a very young age", December 16, 1946, the youngest of four children to dairy farmer Leonard Charles and Della Martlett Orfgen in Menomonie, WI. Lynn attended 13 different schools, including a one-room schoolhouse in Missouri and a high school in the Philippines, before graduating from Radford High School in Hawaii in 1964.
Lynn earned a prestigious appointment to the United States Naval academy. While at the Academy, he met Jane, who became his beloved wife on December 16, 1972 and where he formed many friendships that lasted a lifetime. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Naval Science from the USNA in 1969, he entered the post-graduate flight school, where he became a navigator of A-6 attack aircrafts. While in the Navy, he was able to travel the world and experience places he never dreamed possible as a "farm boy from Wisconsin."
After retiring from active duty in the Navy, having attained the rank of Commander, he attended and earned dual Masters Degrees in Business and in what was the fledgling field of Hospital Administration at George Washington University in 1981 beginning his over 30-year career as an exceptional CEO of hospitals all over the United States. He finished his extensive career at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester, Michigan in 2012. In addition to enjoying hard work, he was an eager and active member of the Rochester community, participating in and relishing the friendships he made in many organizations including the Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, Oakland University Business Advisory Board, and Michigan Hospital Association. True to this modest nature, he always felt blessed to have had the opportunities that he had been given for his humble beginnings.
In his spare time, Lynn was an avid and talented woodworker, making countless gorgeous pieces of furniture. He loved sports, especially baseball and his beloved Atlanta Braves. After moving to Michigan in 2000, he learned to finally accept the designated hitter, hockey, and professional basketball and learning to love the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons. He was a dependable and devoted friend to many and always saw and brought out the best in others. Lynn could always be counted on for a sympathetic ear, a strong shoulder to cry on, wise counsel, an entertaining joke or story, and to at the loudest, most fun table in the room.
Lynn is surveyed by his devoted wife of 40 years, Jane Mulqueen Orfgen; two sisters, Irene Robinson and Ardis Teegarden; two loving Children Tierney Ann Orfgen and Adam Charles Orfgen and his wife, Jennifer. He was pre-ceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Orfgen.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 21, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 22, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 Noon at PIXLEY FUNERAL HOME, 322 W. University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD followed by interment in the Academy Cemetery. The Family would prefer that no flowers be sent but rather have memorial contributions in Lynn's memory be made to several organizations and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
