Reuben Slaughter was the son of Francis Slaughter and Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Lightfoot and the grandson of Robert Slaughter and Frances Ann Jones. He was born in 1736 in Essex County, Virginia. He married Betty (Ann) Poindexter on January 26, 1759. In 1765, he inherited over 1000 acres of land near Gourd Vine Fork in Culpeper County from his father. Reuben and Betty were the parents of thirteen children. Reuben was a Captain with the Virginia Militia during the Revolution. At the organization of Kanawha County, Reuben was named County Surveyor. Reuben died about 1805. The place of his burial is unknown at this time.
