Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in the Port of Spain, Trinidad, he served as a Captain in the 19th Madras Native Infantry, Madras Army. On January 15, 1859, Captain Clogstoun with eight other men charged the Rebels in the town of Chichumbah, India. They finally had to abandon there assault when Captain Clogstoun was severely wounded and he lost seven out of the eight men who accompanied him. For most conspicuous bravery, he was promoted Major and awarded the Victoria Cross on October 21, 1859. He was later killed at age 41 during actions at Hingoli, India.
