Singer, Songwriter. He will be best remembered as one of the pioneers of blues music. Born Robert Calvin Bland, he wrote masterpieces such as "Turn on Your Love Light" and "Further On Up the Road" with which reached the top of the charts in 1957. In the early '60s, he recorded "I'll take care of you" and since then produced a dozen successful hits one after the other. Among his hits, "Call on Me", "That's the Way Love Is" both released in 1963, "Is not Nothing You Can Do", "It's My Life, Baby", "Share Your Love with Me", sung by Aretha Franklin and "Farther Up the Road", now a classic of R & B music. Bland was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1981 and into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. He received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 1997. He died at age of eighty-three for complications arising as a result of a serious illness. (bio by: Ruggero)
