Hon. Robert Andrew (Andy) Keith Scott P.C.
passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on June 24, 2013 at the age of 58. Andy was born in Fredericton, son of Gyda Dorothy Scott and the late R. Keith Scott.

Andy is survived by his wife Denise and his sons Nathan and Noah of Fredericton and Nicholas of Petawawa, ON, mother Gyda Dorothy Scott, sisters Gayle MacPherson of Okotoks, AB and Marina Scott and Lori (Mike) Donovan, both of Fredericton, and mother-in-law Hallie Cameron. Andy was predeceased by his father R. Keith Scott.

Honourary pallbearers are Ed Barrett, Hon. Dr. Carolyn Bennett, P.C., Donnie Todd Cameron, Pat Hoyt, Julian Walker, Al Whitehead and Tim Williston.

Andy went to work at the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition in 1980 and later became the Executive Director of the New Brunswick Liberal Association. Following the election of Frank McKenna in 1987, he went to work in the Premier's office and focused on advancing literacy in New Brunswick. He later served as an ADM in Intergovernmental Affairs working on Official Languages.

A regular fixture at the Boyce Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, Andy was elected five times as the Member of Parliament for Fredericton (formerly Fredericton-York-Sunbury).

Andy was first elected in 1993 becoming the first Liberal elected from Fredericton in 40 years. In Ottawa he focused on EI reforms, the Disability Task Force and the Unity Rally in Montreal. He also began holding forums in his riding which he continued to do throughout his time as an MP.

After being re-elected in 1997, he joined Cabinet as Solicitor General where he undertook a number of progressive initiatives. He later acted as the Chair of the Justice and Human Rights Committee and undertook reviews on organized crime and young offender's legislation.

Following his re-election in 2000, he was reappointed Chair of the Justice and Human Rights Committee which added same sex marriage to its agenda. During this term he placed additional focus back home, landed the NRC in Fredericton and examined why Atlantic Canada was not getting its fair share of university funding. In the fall of 2003, he went back to Cabinet as Minister of State for Infrastructure.

After being re-elected in 2004, he was named Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and was a driving force on the Kelowna Accord. Andy was re-elected for a fifth time in 2006.

After leaving office, Andy established the Social Policy Network, a joint initiative of the Province of New Brunswick, UNB, UdeM, Mount A and STU advocating evidence based public policy as well as the importance of engagement. Andy also served as the Andrews Senior Fellow at UNB.

Visitation at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service took place at Gibson Memorial United Church, 183 Gibson Street, Fredericton on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Peter Short officiating. Interment took place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension following the reception.

Donations in memory of Andy may be made to Gibson Memorial United Church, New Brunswick Association for Community Living, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada or a charity of the donor's choice.
