Paul William Davis, 88, of Anderson, died Aug. 31, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown following an extended illness.

Paul was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Elwood, to Thomas E. and Sylvia (Balser) Davis. He graduated from Elwood High School in 1940; Ball State University in 1951 with a bachelor of arts degree; and in 1954 with a masters of arts degree.

He was the industrial arts teacher at Knightstown High School, Highland High School, Anderson South Side and Anderson North Side Middle schools for a total of 32 years before retiring in 1983. He was awarded the Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year award for the state of Indiana.

He was a member and trustee of Middletown United Methodist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, when he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

He lived most of his life in Anderson and Madison County.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Sparling) Davis of Anderson, whom he married April 17, 1945, in Elwood; his son, Bruce A. (Becky) Davis of Anderson; his daughter, Melinda (Larry) Welsh of Cromwell; his brother, Richard "Zip" (Jane) Davis of Elwood; a stepgrandson, Jason (Angie) Grant of Pendleton; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Molly Grant of Pendleton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Olive Locke and Elvona Tolle; and his brother, Thomas Davis.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with the Rev. Will Tresslar, retired United Methodist Minister of Martinsville, officiating. Military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266 Honor Guard will follow the service at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie.

Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
