Industrialist. He co-founded the Schwinn Bicycle Company. Born in Germany, he immigrated to the United States as a child. He was educated in Chicago, Illinois, and soon entered the small meat-packing business founded by his father. Under Adolph's guidance, Arnold Brothers Packing grew into one of the largest firms of its kind. The Arnold family also expanded their interests into banking and real estate, including the Haymarket Produce Bank. In 1895, Arnold joined with inventor Ignaz Schwinn to create Arnold, Schwinn and Company, a manufacturer of bicycles. The pairing of Arnold's financial expertise along with Schwinn's technical genius resulted in a highly successful company which continued into the 1990s. Schwinn bought out Arnold's interest in 1908, but the name Arnold, Schwinn and Company remained until 1969, when the company officially became The Schwinn Bicycle Company. Arnold continued on as the President of Arnold Brothers Packing until his death in 1912.
