Portuguese singer and actress. She was known as the Queen of Fado. She began her career in 1935 and became an important ambassador of Portuguese language and culture. As a singer, she is remembered for her works "Uma Casa Portuguesa", "Povo Que Lavas No Rio", "Gaivota", "Meu Amor é Marinheiro", "Lisboa Não Sejas Francesa", "Estranha Forma de Vida", "Segredo" and many others. In cinema, she apperared in films such as "Capas Negras" (1947), "Fado, História de Uma Cantadeira" (1948), "Vendaval Maravilhoso" (1951), "Os Amantes do Tejo" (1955) and "Sangue Toureiro" (1955). She was firstly buried in Prazeres Cemetery, but later her remains were moved to the National Pantheon, becoming the first woman with this honor.
