His two military pension applications say he was born June 16, 1894/ June 16,1895. And the California Death Index says he was born June 22, 1895. His WWI Draft registration card says he was born in 1892. His WWI record says he was born in 1893. His headstone says he was born June 22, 1895.

His family called him Slim. His father had 18 children, 9 by his first wife who died and 9 by his second wife. Slim was the 16th child of 18.

When he was about 15 or 16 he ran away from home and took his 13 year old brother, Delbert, with him. They were living in Charlotte, Eaton Co., Michigan at the time and ran away to their oldest half brother's, George, who was living in Saskatchewan, Canada at that time. The two teenage boys worked their way across the country. They stopped in Sacramento, California for a time before making their way to Pomona, Los Angeles Co., California.

Slim was an entrepreneur and started several businesses. He soon became a self-made millionaire by about the 1920's or 1930's. He loved race horses and owned a few.

He was married four times. He first married Clara B. CONKLIN on May 3, 1919 in Pomona, CA but that marriage didn't last long. He then married Edna I. PETTERSON but that marriage ended too. He then married Ella Geraldine HARRISON. He never had any children of his own but family stories say that Slim adopted his second wife's son, Clarence "Lester" HENDERSON, better known as Butch or Lester, but I haven't been able to find a record of adoption or birth. I don't know Butch's birth name or who his natural born father was. Butch's mother was Ella Geraldine HARRISON. Slim's last wife's first name was Louise but nothing else is known about her at this time.
