Elizabeth 15m traveled with her mother and 3 year old brother Paul as 2nd class passengers on the Lusitania. When the torpedo struck, Norah put her baby in a man's arms and asked the men she knew during the voyage to get her son who was sleeping in his cabin. When Norah fetched her son, the man who had baby Elizabeth, lost sight of her. Paul and Norah survived the sinking, but Elizabeth was lost. Norah gave up hope finding her baby. Elizabeth's body was recovered and buried in a covenant in Cobh, Ireland. The father and husband Cyril paid for the burial.Died in the Lusitania sinking.

Elizabeth's body was recovered on Tuesday, 11 May, Norah had given up hope of the body being found and had gone to her home in England. When Elizabeth's body was recovered she was buried in a convent in Cork.
Cyril Bretherton, on Norah's behalf, was awarded $7500 for the loss of Elizabeth and $1500 for the loss of personal effects. Norah died in 1977, Paul in 1980. Paul had a daughter named Teresa, born in 1945.
