She worked as a laboratory technician for many years before devoting her life to raising her children and family. Erma Jo married Howard Gilliam on June 27, 1981 in Brownville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father Ernest Joe Waddle and her step-father Marvin W. Birdwell. She is survived by her husband Howard Gilliam, and his children Mark Gilliam (Laura), Diana Enise Herrington (Joe) all of Rockport, Texas, her mother Marie Imogene Birdwell, her brother Richard Lewis Waddle of Corpus Christi, Texas, and three children, Gaye (Eddie) Chachera of Portland, Texas, Scott Morris of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lisa Dawn Morris of Corpus Christi, Texas, ten grandchildren, Christal (Chad) Fuller, Casey Chachere, Cameron Chachere, Ryan Morris, Allison Morris, Seanne Sanders, Charlotte, Christie, Matt and Brock.
