Dover – Alvin R. Libby, 83, of Salem Ave. died Friday May 31, 2013 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

He was born on January 20, 1930 in Leeds, ME the son of Joseph and Stella (Alden) Libby.

Alvin was a veteran of the United States Air Force for 22 years. He served in the Vietnam War, was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, and served overseas in Okinawa and France. He also volunteered for an orphanage in Saigon. He was a Master Electrician owning and operating Libby Electric. Alvin was an avid golfer and belonged to the Rockingham Country Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping, traveling, tending to his vegetable garden and watching baseball, football and hockey for which he was a part of Friends of UNH Hockey. He was a proud Mayflower descendent of John Alden and Priscilla Smith.

Alvin was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Hamlin Libby and Orville Libby.

Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Christiane (Piquet) Libby of Dover, a daughter Catherine Spencer and her husband Ray of Derry, NH two sons Michael Libby and his wife Melanee of Woodbridge, VA, Dominic Libby of Milton, NH, an adopted daughter Yen Marie Hood and her husband Dennis of Warner Robins, GA, a sister Alice DeMoras and her husband John of Livermore, ME, eight grandchildren Derek, Meagan, Maura, Tanya, Sean, Erika, Sarah, Jason, two great grandchildren, and his pet poodle Nikki.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday June 4, 2013 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday June 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Parish of the Assumption, St. Joseph Church 150 Central Ave., Dover, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, 262 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.
