Richard was the son of August Moungie and Addie Wiley. He died at the age of three of accidental strychnine poisoning. Capsules prescribed to his mother were left unattended on a table. As she was sleeping, Richard found them and ingested ten of them. By the time the family doctor was called it was too late to save the little boy.
