A native of Mendatica, Imperia, Padre Raffaele Bracco was ordained to the priesthood through the Augustinian Order on August 7, 1921. Holding important offices at the Vatican City, Bracco was a renowned historian, known for his particular researches on the extremely wealthy Genoese Doria family, who played a major role in the history of the Republic of Genoa and in Italy, from the 12th century to the 16th century.

Retiring to the Augustinian Priory of Luano in his later years, Padre Bracco passed away there on June 14, 1977, and in accordance with his wishes, was laid to rest at local Camposanto, where his mother also lies buried. He also requested that the presence of his beloved "mendaighin", the people of his native village, who accompanied him in his last journey with the notes of their band.
