Charles J. Carmichael, 82, of
Hobbs passed away Monday,
July 18, 2005, at a local nursing
home. Funeral services will be
2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005,
at Bel Aire Baptist Church
with the Rev. Shawn Drake
officiating. Interment will follow
at Prairie Haven
Cemetery. The family will
receive friends at Griffin
Funeral Home on Wednesday,
July 20, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-
8:00 p.m.
Mr. Carmichael was born
July 14, 1923, in De Naya,
Okla., to Charles and Veola
Rollins Carmichael. Mr.
Carmichael had several nicknames,
C.J., Jr. and Hogie. He
married Cleo Eileen Hedrick
in Hobbs. Mr. Carmichael
worked for Hobbs Iron & Metal
and K&S Electric and was a
member of Bel Aire Baptist
Church. He was preceded in
death by his parents and his
first wife, Doris G.
Carmichael.
Survivors include his wife,
Cleo Eileen Carmichael of the
home; children, Patricia
Groseclose and husband Jack
of Lubbock, Dennis
Carmichael and wife Donna of
Tye, Texas, and Larry
Carmichael and wife Teresa of
Hobbs; stepchildren, James D.
Hedrick of Hobbs, Cary D.
Hedrick Sr. of Hobbs, Carroll
Hedrick of Bryan, Texas,
Kathy De Spain of Jackson,
Tennessee, S. Frances Hedrick
and Mike Minard of Riverton,
Wyo.; his sister, Wanda Patton
of Seminole; nine grandchildren;
14 stepgrandchildren; 34
great- and stepgreat-grandchildren;
several nieces and
nephews, including a special
niece who shared his birthday;
many friends; and a
grandson, 1st Lt. Kevin
Carmichael, stationed in
Okinawa.
